Hier, le 22 septembre marquait le début de l'automne, mais à Edmonton, avec une température de 24 degrés Celsius, on vivait l'été indien. Il n'empêche que sur le terrain du
Cougar Creek Golf Resort les couleurs de l'automne étaient parfaitement en évidence. Cougar Creek se trouve à moins d'une heure de route à l'ouest du centre-ville d'Edmonton.
Cougar Creek which opened in 1996 was designed by Canadian born architect Bill Robinson who also signed the layout of Lewis Estates which I played earlier. Bill took advantage of the well treed rolling hills and existing water hazards. The first eleven holes run through the forest; twelve to fifteen open up onto what appears to be a ravine.
Thirteen to fifteen are somewhat reminiscent of Amen Corner at Augusta National as you are continuously threaten by water. On fifteen, pictured here, and seen from the ladies tee box, even worse from the white teebox above this one, you have to cross the water hazard and then head for the green at the extreme left of the picture, and all along the sloping, rolling hills want to bring your ball right back to the water. A challenging hole to say the least; the most difficult of the back nine. My favorite holes were all the par 3's where I did really well, even scoring a birdie on 14 which turns out to be the easiest hole on the course.
J'ai passé une journée agréable en compagnie de Kelly, Lorraine et Johnny tous trois de véritables golfeurs enthousiastes et plein de joie de vivre. Nous avons tous connus de bons moments sur le terrain, chacun réussissant un "par" ici et là, mais plus souvent qu'autrement on se retrouvait en difficulté avec des "bogeys" ou pire, pour moi pire que pire!!! Mon amour du golf reste toutefois intact. Nous n'étions pas les seuls à profiter de la chaleur, même les outardes ont pris une journée de congé pour se baigner en plein soleil.
