Le club de golf de Drayton Valley est situé à deux heures de route au sud-oest d'Edmonton. A la page web du club, on y dit que c'est un parcours qu'il faut jouer à tout prix. A mon avis, quand on compare ce terrain au deux derniers que nous avons joués, cela me paraît exagéré. Pour les gens de la région peut-être, mais quatre heures de route aller-retour c'est trop. Le parcours est toutefois en très bon état. Les allées sont bien entretenues et les verts de grandes dimensions sont très réceptifs quoique rapides.
Drayton Valley is today a town of approximately 7,000 people. In 1953 Drayton Valley only had 75 inhabitants but with the discovery of the Pembina Oil Field, the largest oil field in North America at the time, the town grew to 2,000 people in one year. More than 70 oil companies settled in the region and oil pumps appeared all over the local landscape. Some can still be found today on the golf course.
At first sight, Drayton Valley Golf Club, looks like a flat prairie course but nothing could be farther from the reality. As soon as you get to the third hole you find yourself in a difficult spot. This medium length par 4 is shape like an "S" and highly difficult to reach in two: first you have to cross Rose Creek with a perfect drive over the conifer in the middle or lay up to the right of it otherwise your drive might find the creek along the right of the fairway. Mine did! The 4th hole is a full carry par 3 over the same lake to a well bunkered green. Again, good luck!
Il faut encore traverser le lac au septième trou, un trou à normale 3. Brenda célèbre ici la traversée du lac et la possibilité d'une normale bien méritée. Quant à moi, ce jour-là je n'ai pas réussi à trouver mon élan et j'ai très mal joué. Ainsi va la vie! Surtout ne pas prendre ça au sérieux. Pour ce qui est de la faune, encore une fois nous sommes revenus les mains vides. Nous avons toutefois découvert que certains golfeurs savent conserver le sens de l'humour, en voici la preuve.
